Coaches
Mrs. Stout has been the Head Coach of Berkeley Recreation Summer Swim from its inception in 1999. Berkeley was started with the idea of providing the children of Berkeley Township the opportunity to be introduced to competitive swimming at an entry level.
Mrs. Stout began her swimming career at the TRCC under the legendary Coach Mickey Vogt. She then competed for the Ocean County YMCA and Toms River High School South. At the collegiate level she swam at the University of Delaware, OCC and Rider University.
Currently she is the Head Girls Swimming Coach at Central Regional HS(1993-Present) and resides locally with Coach Stout, her children Karleigh and Kaden, and her fur babies, Nike, Chloe and Remi.
Coach Stout has been coaching Berkeley Recreation Summer Swim since its inception in 1999. His swimming career began at the OCY at the age of 10. He was instrumental in advocating a Varsity Swim program at CRHS and was a freshman swimmer in its inaugural season (1989). He also swam for CJAC, the University of Pittsburgh, and NC State.
Coach Stout earned a Health and Physical Education Degree from The College of New Jersey and a Masters in Educational Administration from Kean University. He began his coaching career as a volunteer at CRHS in 1998 and was named Head Boys Swimming Coach in 2001. He also coached the Ocean County College swimming team from 2000-2015 and brought home the NJCAA Non-Scholarship Title in 2009. He has since been inducted into the CRHS Hall of Fame (swimmer) as well the Ocean County College & NJCAA Coaches Coaches Hall of Fame.
Coach Stout also coaches HS Boys Soccer and Girls Varsity Softball. He resides locally with his family and pets.
Coach "FUS"
Coach Fus has been part of the Berkeley Recreation Summer Swim team from its inception in 1999. She joined as a swimmer, became a student volunteer coach, and then became a member of the coaching staff.
Coach Fus began swimming in high school at CRHS under Coach & Mrs. Stout. She then swam at the collegiate level for 2 years at Albright College. Upon graduation she secured a teaching position at CRMS and joined the coaching ranks for CRHS. Coach Fus also served as assistant coach with Coach Stout at Ocean County College for five years.
Coach Fus currently serves as the assistant coach to the boys and girls swim teams at Central Regional High School (2005-Present) and resides locally in Bayville with her husband, children Landon and Grayson, and their dog, Kona.
Coach Courtney has been coaching the 6/Under age group with Coach Fus for over 15 years. She swam for Toms River HS East and Ocean County College. Coach Stout recognized her hard work, perseverance, and overall team attitude and asked her to join our coaching staff. Since then she has never looked back. She has an innate ability to be kind, loving, and tough on all of her little swimmers and they adore her.
Courtney is a licensed Physical Therapist and resides locally with her husband Matt and daughter Lily.
Coach Karleigh began her swimming career with Berkeley Recreation at the age of 4. She swam for BTREC for 15 summers finishing her career in 2021. She also swam for CRHS, OCY, and GMNY as both a State and National Team member.
She began coaching as a student volunteer and has coached the 9-12 age group for the past several years. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina earning an M.S. degree in Mathematics and was an Academic All American member of the Rowing Team.
Currently she is a Statistics educator with the Jackson School District and coached both girls soccer and softball.
Coach Carly has been a member of Berkeley Recreation Summer Swim since the age of 9. Her journey has led her through the ranks of Age Group Swimming, HS Swimming, and soon Collegiate Swimming. She has qualified and finaled (Top 8) at both the Ocean County Championships and the Shore Conference Championships. She has swam for the OCY and CRHS programs and will be continuing her career at The College of New Jersey.
Carly graduated CRHS this June and will be studying exercise science in the fall.
